On World Environment Day, Retail First Pty Ltd celebrates the positive changes introduced over the last couple of years that have had a significant environmental impact on reducing Retail First’s energy use, waste, and pollution, as well as conserving natural resources.

Some examples of this are as follows:

  • The introduction of Pulpmaster which is being rolled out across the portfolio – reduction of food waste from the shopping centres’ foodcourts and food retailers, transforming the food waste into sustainable organic fertilizer and green energy.
  • Divided food bins for recycling – separating waste at the source (the moment rubbish is put into the bin) helps to decrease damaging greenhouse gases and unnecessary waste.
  • Working with waste contractors to increase recycling and other diversions from landfill.
  • Investing in solar panels at Calamvale Central, which will be rolled out to more assets in time.  This is helping us to manage energy costs while reducing emissions.
  • Implementation of Smart Water Meters which allow for real time monitoring of water consumption.  This aids in leak detection and identifying excessive use.  Flow restriction and water monitoring devices have also been installed across the portfolio in all amenities.
  • All common area lighting across the portfolio is being converted to LED lighting, and timers implemented for evening lighting.
  • Energy efficient equipment is a priority in all new purchasing
  • Up to date with the use of Smart Building Management Systems that have analytical capabilities aimed at energy efficiency.
  • Procurement of energy is currently being reviewed to incorporate green energy.
